Duffy Family Reality Show Raises Questions Over Corporate Sponsorships
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy's family reality show, The Great American Road Trip, has raised eyebrows due to its sponsorship structure. The series was produced by Great American Road Trip Inc., with several companies paying between $100,000 and $1 million for sponsorship packages.
The sponsors included Boeing, Toyota, Shell, United Airlines, Royal Caribbean, Enterprise, Lyft, Google, Chase Travel, the American Bus Association, CRH, and the Electronic Payments Coalition. These companies have business interests or regulatory dealings with the Department of Transportation, which Duffy oversees.
While the show's disclaimer states that filming costs were covered by the production company as a gift to the department, critics argue that this arrangement creates an appearance problem. They question whether companies can buy goodwill and access to a Cabinet official through corporate sponsorships.
