Dutch forensic experts have successfully unlocked one suspect's Google Pixel in a triple-murder case, gaining access to weapon images, cash photos, and conversations. The breakthrough was made by the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI), who hope to crack the phones of two other suspects as well.

The lack of technical details has led to speculation that the phone may have been running on a modified-security focused operating system such as GrapheneOS rather than Google's standard Android. However, GrapheneOS has denied any involvement, pointing out that the original article did not mention the operating system.

GrapheneOS also warned that some companies in Europe sell supposedly hardened smartphones with modifications that can actually weaken key security protections. They suggested that the phones could resemble Anom, an FBI-run encrypted service that was secretly marketed to criminals worldwide.
