East Yorkshire Athlete Shatters Barriers with Record-Breaking Feats

East Yorkshire's Angus Leckonby is an inspiration to many, breaking Guinness World Records and pushing boundaries as a Special Olympics GB athlete.

Leckonby, from Driffield, has competed in various events across the country and recently set three world records, including becoming the youngest and fastest male athlete with an intellectual disability (II1) to complete a marathon. He is now part of Coca-Cola's We Can campaign, which highlights the power of inclusion and opportunity through community sport.

The campaign coincides with the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games, where over 1,200 athletes from England, Scotland, and Wales are competing. Leckonby hopes to inspire others to pursue their dreams, saying 'people sometimes underestimate what athletes with an intellectual disability can achieve, but I want to show that anything is possible if you believe in yourself and work hard.'

The Special Olympics GB National Summer Games will culminate in a multi-sport event in Birmingham from August 27-30, with the potential for some athletes to be selected for the 2027 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Chile.
