Edge Ditches Legacy Security Tools Ahead of New Browser Update
Microsoft Edge is getting ready to bid farewell to two legacy Windows 10 security tools. According to an internal admin portal notice, Defender Application Guard (MDAG) and Windows Information Protection (WIP) will be retired next month.
These features have been deprecated for a while now - MDAG was removed from Windows 11 version 24H2, and WIP was discontinued in 2022. The company recommends that users of Windows Information Protection migrate to Microsoft Purview Information Protection and Endpoint Data Loss Prevention, while those who used Defender Application Guard are encouraged to rely on built-in Edge security technologies or browser isolation products from other vendors.
The change will only affect business users on Windows 10, as Microsoft continues its transition to modern security solutions. The launch of Edge version 154 in September 2026 will mark the end of these legacy features in the browser.
