Edge Update Brings Apple Sign-In, Scam Protection Amid Feature Cuts
Microsoft Edge has been updated to include new features and security measures while also phasing out some older functionalities. The latest update allows users to sign in using their Apple account, providing an alternative to Microsoft accounts. This feature is part of a controlled rollout and can be managed by administrators through the NonMicrosoftAccountSignInEnabled policy.
Additionally, the browser has been equipped with the ability to automatically unsubscribe users from scam-related notifications. If a notification attempts to redirect the user to a website blocked by Microsoft Defender SmartScreen as a scam or malware page, Edge will block further notifications from that source and notify the user. This feature can be accessed through the edge://settings/privacy/sitePermissions/allPermissions/notifications settings.
The update also introduces an enhanced key icon in the address bar, which allows users to view saved credentials with detailed information about each login, including the ability to copy usernames and passwords, as well as add personal notes. However, this feature is also part of a controlled rollout.
On the other hand, Microsoft Edge Drop has been discontinued in version 152, with the company stating that the decision was made to simplify the browser. Real-time video translation is also being phased out through a gradual rollout due to differences in availability across various environments. The LiveVideoTranslationEnabled policy will be removed in a future update.
