Edge's Ad-Blocking Purge: uBlock Origin's Days Numbered

Microsoft Edge users who rely on uBlock Origin for ad-blocking will soon need to look for alternatives as the browser transitions away from Manifest Version 2 (MV2) extensions.

The shift is part of Microsoft's plan to fully transition consumers away from MV2 extensions by the end of 2026, with enterprise users following suit in 2027.

Microsoft has confirmed that uBlock Origin, along with a small group of other extensions, will no longer be supported on Edge due to its reliance on MV2.

The transition to Manifest Version 3 (MV3) is expected to bring improved security and performance, but it also limits the WebRequest API, which allows ad blockers like uBlock Origin to dynamically intercept and block network requests.

While a version of uBlock Origin that works with MV3, known as uBlock Origin Lite, is available, it lacks some of the granular controls of the full version and may not be suitable for power users.
