Ekurhuleni Residents Urged to Explore Local Library Services
The City of Ekurhuleni is encouraging residents to make use of its libraries during National Book Week, which runs from September 1 to 7. According to Zweli Dlamini, spokesperson for the city's Library and Information Services, the goal is to promote reading as a daily activity and strengthen literacy programs across communities.
The city's libraries offer various programs designed to make reading enjoyable and accessible, including storytelling, reading in indigenous languages, poetry sessions, book debates, and motivational activities. These programs cater to diverse needs, from Born to Read for expectant mothers to early childhood programs, school support, student services, youth skills development, and traditional library services.
The city has 47 libraries across its three regions, with 18 in the eastern region, 12 in the northern region, and 16 in the southern region. All libraries have adult, children's, reference and research, study, and computer access sections. Additionally, there are five Knowledge Centres, Studios, Kidz Zones, and a Cisco Academy.
