El Al Boeing 777-200 Narrowly Avoids Disaster at Tel Aviv Airport
An El Al Boeing 777-200 came close to disaster on approach into Tel Aviv Airport. The crew had been cleared for a visual approach, but instead of following the correct path, they descended to just 600 feet while off track.
The aircraft involved was operating flight LY324 from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Tel Aviv, and the misaligned approach continued until the crew initiated a go around at a height where an accident could have been fatal.
After repositioning the Boeing 777 at 4000 feet, the crew set up for another approach to runway 30 and landed safely about 20 minutes later.
