Elderly Man Attacked with Axe at Hutto Home Depot
A disturbing incident occurred at a Home Depot in Hutto, Texas, where an elderly man was attacked with an axe. Manuel Vera, 78, was shopping near Ed Schmidt Boulevard and Chandler Road when he was suddenly assaulted by a stranger.
Vera's son, Larry Hopper, said the attacker didn't utter a word before swinging at his father. 'The guy never said anything. Just started swinging,' Hopper recalled.
Vera suffered severe injuries, including a skull fracture, wounds to his head and arms, a broken arm, and a broken finger. His son described the scene as 'hard to get past,' both physically and mentally.
The suspect was apprehended nearby on Chandler Road after Hutto police responded to the incident. Vera's family is still seeking answers about what led to the attack and why his father was targeted.
