Emirates Crafts Iconic Arsenal Emblem from Upcycled Aircraft Parts
Emirates Airline has partnered with Arsenal Football Club to celebrate their 20-year partnership. The two organizations unveiled 'The Aircrafted Arsenal Crest', a stunning sculpture made from upcycled components sourced from Emirates' Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft.
The crest is a 2.4-metre-high installation that brings together the precision of aviation engineering with the discipline and skill of elite sport. It was created in 34 days by a team of 15 engineers, designers, mechanics, and technicians and painters from Emirates Engineering's Aircraft Material Upcycling team.
The sculpture features Arsenal's famous cannon at its centre, reconstructed using components from an Emirates Airbus A380. The cannon wheel is formed from a main landing gear wheel hub, while the barrel is made from a section of titanium bleed air duct that was cut and reshaped. Lightweight composite floor panels were built up to form the cannon's three-dimensional body.
The face of the shield is created from sheets of Boeing 777 aluminium fuselage skin, with aircraft cargo tracks adapted to form its outer edge and internal structure. The Arsenal lettering has been individually shaped from aircraft windows and fitted with integrated warm white lighting.
The bespoke installation was designed and built in-house by Emirates Engineering's Aircraft Material Upcycling team in Dubai. It was then flown to London on an Emirates SkyCargo freighter ahead of its installation at Emirates Stadium, where it will be permanently displayed in the airline's hospitality space.
