Emirates Rejects First Batch of Boeing 777-9 Jets Citing Design Changes

Emirates Airline has decided not to take delivery of its first ten Boeing 777-9 jets, citing significant design changes since the initial order. The airline's president, Sir Tim Clark, stated that the modifications have made it difficult and costly for them to bring the aircraft up to current standards.

The decision was announced at the Farnborough International Airshow on July 20, where Clark suggested that Boeing consider selling the jets to Heinz, the food packaging company. He quipped that 'Heinz would be interested' in buying the planes, comparing them to baked bean cans.

Emirates has ordered a total of 270 777X aircraft, with the first batch consisting of ten jets. However, due to the significant changes made to the design, Clark stated that it no longer makes sense for Emirates to take delivery of these planes.

This is not an isolated incident, as Boeing also has around 25 parked and unwanted 737 MAX 7s, which were ordered by Southwest Airlines.
