Enflame IPO Ignites Chinese Chipmaking Sector with Record-Breaking Debut
Chinese AI chipmaker Enflame Technology had a blockbuster debut on Shanghai's STAR Market, raising $912 million in its initial public offering (IPO). The company's shares surged nearly 200% during their first session, reaching a post-listing market value of approximately $26 billion. This valuation is roughly three times the company's IPO valuation.
The listing comes as China seeks to develop its own domestic computing power and reduce its reliance on US companies like Nvidia. Enflame designs processors used to train and operate artificial-intelligence models, with tech giant Tencent owning a 17.95% stake in the company following the listing. The relationship between Enflame and Tencent supplies capital, demand, and credibility.
However, investors are valuing Enflame's growth potential rather than its present earnings, as the company remains unprofitable. Revenue increased 37% to $990.2 million in 2025, while the company recorded a net loss of $1.16 billion. Management expects revenue of between $2.3 billion and $3 billion for the first nine months of 2026, alongside a narrower loss of $700 million to $860 million.
