Engineers Threaten Strike as Boeing Ramps Up 737 Production

Boeing is finally ramping up production of its popular 737 aircraft to a rate of 47 planes per month, but this progress may be short-lived due to an impending strike by engineers.

The Society of Professional Engineering Employees in Aerospace (SPEEA) units representing Boeing's approximately 17,000 engineers and technical workers have rejected the company's contract offers, with nearly 88% and around 90% support for a strike. The current contracts expire on October 6th.

A strike would stall engineering support that underpins the production ramp-up, which is crucial as Boeing tries to sustain a pace of 47 planes per month. This could also impact the certification work still outstanding for the larger 737-10 variant.
