Enterprise Software Complexity Stifles AI Adoption, Says Tribal CEO
Salesforce veteran Yoav Kolodner reflects on his time as VP of Engineering at Salesforce, where he observed that enterprise software is not just about the product itself but also about the accumulated context and complexity that comes with it.
Kolodner notes that in enterprise environments, a small part of the software, around a third, is actually used by customers, while the rest is made up of custom objects, validation rules, approval chains, and integrations built over time. This 'enterprise context' can be daunting for teams to navigate, with 95% of AI pilots dying due to the inability to understand how changes will impact the system.
Kolodner attributes this phenomenon to Israeli tech's tendency to focus on building products from scratch, rather than dealing with existing systems and their complexities. He believes that solving these 'unglamorous technical problems' is key to unlocking enterprise AI's potential.
The Tribal CEO argues that most Israeli founders have never experienced the challenges of working within an existing system, as they often start from a clean slate. He emphasizes the need for companies to develop tools and strategies to tackle this 'bottleneck' in AI adoption, which could potentially unlock tens of millions of dollars in value.
