Equinor Joins Chevron in Namibia's Oil-Rich Orange Basin
Namibia's Orange Basin is gaining attention from global energy giants as they seek to unlock its oil potential. Norwegian energy giant Equinor has joined Chevron in the country, acquiring a 17.4% interest in Exploration Licence 90.
Equinor's deal with Chevron's Harmattan Energy adds another major international producer to Namibia's growing list of oil explorers. The company plans to drill another well within the licence later this year, adding to its exploration campaign in the country.
Namibia's Orange Basin has attracted some of the world's largest energy companies following a series of discoveries and exploration successes in the wider region. TotalEnergies, Shell, QatarEnergy, BP, and Eni are among the companies exploring offshore Namibia alongside smaller independent producers.
