EU Backs Ghana's West Africa Border Security Initiative with €7.3 Million
The European Union has pledged €7.3 million to support Ghana's regional border security initiative in West Africa. The project, known as SHIFT, aims to strengthen and harmonise Integrated Border Management (IBM) practices across participating countries.
SHIFT will be implemented in Benin, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, and Togo, with Burkina Faso participating in regional-level interventions. The initiative seeks to enhance national and regional security, promote economic growth, and foster cross-border cooperation.
The project has been launched at the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) Headquarters in Accra, with the inaugural meeting of the National Project Steering Committee taking place on the same day. According to Comptroller-General of Immigration Samuel Basintale Amadu, the GIS is committed to working closely with regional and international partners to secure Ghana's borders.
