EU Orders Google to Share Search Data Under Digital Markets Act

The European Union's Digital Markets Act has ordered Google to share anonymized search data with rival search engines by January 2027.

This decision is a significant step towards creating a more level playing field for competitors, including AI services like Gemini.

The EU Commission clarified that Google must provide third parties with access to features and data needed to improve their services, including anonymized search data.

Google will also be required to allow eligible third-party search providers to share in its search data, which had been developed in collaboration with privacy experts.
