EU Unveils $35 Billion Plan for AI Gigafactories Across Europe
The European Union has launched an ambitious plan to build up to seven AI Gigafactories across Europe, backed by industry leaders AMD, Nvidia, and Qualcomm.
The move aims to expand the EU's computing power and provide access to start-ups, businesses, researchers, universities, and public organizations for training and developing advanced AI models.
The €30 billion project is expected to attract more than €30 billion in total public and private investment, with up to €10 billion in EU and national funding.
The new facilities will combine advanced AI processors, cloud technology, high-speed networks, and energy-efficient data centers. They will work alongside Europe's existing network of 19 AI Factories to improve the EU's technological independence and support AI development within European rules on data protection, safety, and ethics.
