Ex-DeepMind Researcher Warns of AI's 'Potential to Kill Us All'
Bilal Chughtai, a former Google DeepMind researcher, has sounded the alarm on AI risk. He warned that time may be running out to prevent AI from killing us all.
Chughtai worked on AGI safety and alignment at DeepMind in early 2022. When he left the company in July 2026, he noted that AI progress had accelerated significantly. From 'amusingly useless' systems to AI agent swarms capable of escaping control and conducting cyberattacks, Chughtai said existing methods for training AI remain 'extremely rudimentary.'
The former researcher called for coordination among AI companies to slow development to a pace society can manage. He plans to continue working on the issue at BlueDot Impact.
