Excavator Market Sees Significant Expansion with New Models and Technologies
Major excavator manufacturers have rolled out numerous new models in the past year. These machines cater to various needs, from working in confined spaces to heavy infrastructure projects. New trends include shorter tail swings, electro-hydraulic controls, and more safety features.
The top-selling category of construction equipment continues to be crawler diesel excavators, with nearly 15,000 new financed units sold in the U.S. between July 1, 2025, and June 30, 2026. The most popular models include Bobcat's E245 and Case CE's CX145E SR.
Caterpillar expanded its lineup of compact-radius excavators with the 19-ton 319 CR, which combines a compact design with additional lifting power. Develon launched its next-generation excavators, featuring redesigned cabs, electro-hydraulic controls, and safety features such as automatic slow and stop when detecting nearby people.
