Excel Tracker Saves User Over $1,000 in Recurring Expenses
A long-time Microsoft Office user and document producer, Tony Phillips, created a simple Excel subscription tracker that helped him save over $1,000 in recurring expenses. The tracker brings all his subscriptions together in one place, highlighting overlaps and giving him time to act before renewals.
Phillips started with a three-column table: Service, Cost, and Last paid. He used the Accounting number format for the 'Cost' column and Date format for the 'Last paid' column. The only information he needed to type manually was the name of the service, its cost, and when he last paid for it.
The tracker also includes drop-down menus for categories and billing, which Phillips created using data validation to ensure consistency in his labels. This allows him to group subscriptions by category and see how much he's spending in each area.
