FAA Grants Boeing 737-7 Certification After Years of Delays
After years of delays and regulatory scrutiny, Boeing has finally secured certification for its smallest 737 MAX variant, the 737-7. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted an amended Type Certificate for the aircraft, clearing it to enter commercial service.
The certification marks a significant milestone in Boeing's efforts to rebuild momentum across its commercial aircraft program. The 737-7 is designed to seat between 135 and 160 passengers and offers improved efficiency, greater range, and lower operating costs compared to previous-generation 737NG aircraft.
Southwest Airlines will be the first operator of the 737-7, with the carrier expecting delivery in 2027. Boeing has already completed a number of aircraft awaiting delivery and is preparing for handovers once the final process is complete.
