FAA Orders Inspection of Over 470 Boeing 737 MAX Jets Amid Crack Concerns

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an inspection order for all Boeing 737 MAX jets in operation after concerns were raised about potential structural cracks. The issue was identified in older Boeing models, specifically the 737 Next Generation aircraft, but the MAX jets share the same design.

According to the FAA order, the cracks 'adversely affect the structural integrity of the airplane.' There are over 470 737 MAX jets operating in the US, and while the directive does not require them to be taken out of service, airlines will need to schedule inspections and repairs for any planes where cracks are detected.

Boeing has stated its support for the move, saying 'we support both directives and continue to support our airline customers.' Major carriers such as United and Southwest plan to perform the checks during standard maintenance rather than taking planes out of service.
