FAA Orders Inspections for Structural Cracks on Hundreds of Boeing 737 Max Jets

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued an airworthiness directive requiring inspections of hundreds of Boeing 737 Max jets for cracks in their bodies. The directive affects an estimated 471 US-registered aircraft, including the 737 Max 8 and 9 models.

Cracks were discovered on some planes near the forward service door on the right side, next to the front galley. Airlines must inspect this area based on each plane's usage and repair any cracking before returning it to service.

Boeing has conducted an analysis to determine the cause of the cracks and is working on engineering changes to prevent them in the future.
