FAA Orders Inspections of Boeing Dreamliners Over Potential Wing Cracks

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered inspections of 17 Boeing Co. Dreamliner jets after discovering potential wing fatigue cracks due to manufacturing errors.

A company probe found that shim gaps may have exceeded engineering limits, which could lead to high pull-up forces causing fatigue cracks at the fastener holes.

If left unchecked, these cracks can weaken the primary wing structure and compromise the plane's ability to sustain a safe flight and landing.

The FAA has estimated that 17 US-registered aircraft are affected by this issue, requiring ultrasonic and detailed inspections to address the problem.
