FAA Orders Inspections of Hundreds of Boeing 737 Max Jets
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered inspections of hundreds of Boeing 737 Max jets due to concerns over structural integrity issues. The directive affects around 470 planes, including the Max 8, Max 8-200, and Max 9 models.
The FAA's decision comes after receiving reports that some airplanes had cracks near one of the galley door cutouts. The agency has not ordered the grounding of 737 Maxes, but rather requires inspection of the bear strap and fuselage skin by September 10.
Boeing told The Hill that it identified and reported the issue to the FAA in 2019, and has been working with operators on it over the past six years. The company said it supports both directives and continues to support its airline customers.
