Fatal Cargo Plane Crash Revives Pilot's Safety Concerns Against Amazon Carrier
A fatal cargo plane crash in Miami on Sunday has shed light on a complaint filed four years ago against 21 Air, the operator of an Amazon-branded aircraft. The crash killed five people and injured five others, but it's too soon to know what caused the accident.
Karl Seuring, a former pilot for Delta Air Lines and 21 Air, alleged wrongful termination in a complaint with the Department of Labor against 21 Air in 2022. He claimed he was fired for raising safety concerns, including insufficient rest between flights, improper resource management, and discouraging employees from speaking up about safety issues.
Seuring's case is ongoing, but the crash has brought attention to his allegations as well as Amazon's network of cargo carriers that operate behind-the-scenes for the e-commerce giant. 21 Air, founded in 2014, operates eight 767s for Amazon and contracts with DHL Aviation.
