FedEx Unveils Nostalgic Boeing 777F as FedEx Founder's Legacy Lives On
FedEx has unveiled a Boeing 777F painted in a nostalgic design to commemorate its founder's legacy. The aircraft, registration number N884FD, was first introduced to the fleet in 2011 and now sports a color scheme inspired by the Dassault Falcon 20 jets that launched FedEx operations in 1973.
The Memphis airport has been renamed Frederick W. Smith International Airport in honor of FedEx's founder, who passed away in 2025. The aircraft, named 'Rosie,' carries a symbolic link between FedEx's heritage and future, as it is one of the first planes to touch down at the newly designated facility.
Frederick W. Smith originally selected Memphis as the base for Federal Express in 1973 due to its central location and dependable weather. The company's president and CEO, Raj Subramaniam, stated that all aircraft, personnel, and cargo moving through the airport will embody the founder's vision and the community's global connectivity.
