Fervo Energy Lands Record-Breaking Geothermal Deal with Google
Fervo Energy has secured a major partnership with Google for its enhanced geothermal project in Utah. The tech giant signed a 396-MW power purchase agreement (PPA) with Fervo, marking the largest-ever geothermal PPA to date.
The deal will enable the continued development of Fervo's Cape Station enhanced geothermal project in Southwestern Utah, near the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Geothermal Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy.
Fervo expects the project to come online in 2028 and plans to deploy standardized 50 MW units of geothermal energy, known as GeoBlocks, to form larger GeoClusters.
The partnership has been a key factor in Fervo's growth, with CEO Tim Latimer stating that their multi-year agreement with Google has been 'important for our growth' and that they are 'excited to take the next step with them.'
