Fervo Energy Shares Soar on Google Power Deal
Fervo Energy, an enhanced geothermal power developer and independent power producer, saw its shares surge by 28.41% after announcing a major power purchase agreement with Alphabet's Google. The deal is for 396 megawatts of clean energy from Fervo's Cape Station project in Utah, which will supply Google's planned artificial intelligence data center in the state. Google has the option to expand the deal by an additional 600 MW, bringing it close to 1 GW by 2030.
The partnership seems like a natural fit for both companies. Fervo can start selling power to Google as early as 2028, while Google looks to build its data center in Utah. However, investors need to be aware that Fervo's projects are still in progress and may face challenges in meeting the demand from Google.
While this deal is a significant milestone for Fervo Energy, the company's shares have fallen by 46% since going public in 2026. As such, investors should exercise caution when investing in this virtually pre-revenue stock, especially with its high growth expectations and volatile market conditions.
