Fever Battle Heat, Secure Fifth Straight Win Over Toronto
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever continued their winning streak on Tuesday night, taking down the Toronto Temple in a 101-95 victory. The team's fifth consecutive win was not without its challenges, however, as they had to contend with sweltering heat in the Coca-Cola Coliseum.
Clark acknowledged that the team didn't play their best, but was happy to take the win when available. She joked that it would be 'probably helpful' if Canada had air conditioning, given the arena's temperature of a 'million degrees.'
Kelsey Mitchell, who has been on a tear with 20-point games in succession, sat out the fourth quarter due to overheating. According to Fever head coach Stephanie White, Mitchell was simply 'overheated' after struggling through two consecutive hot environments.
Despite the heat-induced struggles, Clark and the Fever's offense were firing on all cylinders, reaching the 100-point mark for the 16th time in 36 games. Clark finished with 24 points and seven assists in 33 minutes, extending her streak of 20-point games to six consecutive.
The three-time All-Star is averaging 26.1 points on 41.4% three-point shooting and 9.2 assists per game since July 17. The Fever's win improves their record to 24-12 overall, with sole possession of third place in the playoff standings just two games behind the Golden State Valkyries for the No. 2 seed.
