FF+ Challenges AWS Ownership Rule in South Africa
The Freedom Front Plus (FF+) has questioned the ownership rule of Amazon Web Services (AWS) in South Africa, calling for clarification on whether local law mandates its requirements.
AWS's Equity Equivalent Programme requires firms to be 100% black-owned to participate, which has raised concerns among some South Africans.
Jaco Mulder, the FF+ spokesperson for Trade, Industry and Competition, says the party is not claiming the AWS requirement is unlawful under broad-based black economic empowerment legislation.
Instead, they want to know where the 100% threshold comes from - whether it's a condition set by South African law or AWS itself.
