Filet-O-Fish Fails: 10 Countries Where You Won't Find This Beloved Burger
McDonald's Filet-O-Fish sandwich has been a staple on the menu for decades, but it's not available at every McDonald's location worldwide. In 1962, Lou Groen, a McDonald's franchisee in Cincinnati, created the Filet-O-Fish as a solution to lost business on Fridays when his predominantly Catholic clientele abstained from meat.
The sandwich became a nationwide menu item and remains a favorite today, with Keystone Foods supplying 15 million pounds per year to the chain. However, not all McDonald's locations offer the classic Filet-O-Fish, and it's completely absent in 10 countries where the chain operates.
These countries include Brazil, Colombia, Finland, Korea, Peru, the Philippines, Slovakia, South Africa, Turkey, and Uruguay. According to McDonald's, international menus are tailored to regional culture, tradition, and taste preferences, which may explain why the Filet-O-Fish doesn't pass these guidelines in every country.
