Firefighter Turns Home Depot Run into Duck Rescue

A Pittsburgh firefighter's routine trip to Home Depot turned into an unexpected rescue mission when he spotted a distressed duck pacing beside a storm drain.

Matt Klein, a North Fayette Township Volunteer Fire Department firefighter, was picking up supplies for a project when he noticed the duck near the storm grate. Upon closer inspection, he discovered five ducklings trapped below and got two of them safely back to their mother before his department arrived.

The rescue's most challenging moment came when crews used water from an engine to move a last duckling about 30 feet down a drain pipe leading to another catch basin, allowing it to be safely reached. All five ducklings were unharmed and reunited with their mother, making the outcome a memorable one for Klein and his community.
