Fischer Joins Blackstone-Google Venture as CFO Amid AI Infrastructure Boom
Former Charter Communications CFO Jessica Fischer is leaving her post to join a Blackstone- and Google-backed venture focused on building AI infrastructure. The new company aims to provide computing capacity for AI models and applications, with an initial investment of $5 billion in equity from Blackstone.
Fischer will become the chief financial officer (CFO) of the joint venture, which plans to build 500 megawatts of capacity by 2027 and expand beyond that. Google will provide its AI chips and related technology for the project.
Fischer's departure from Charter marks a significant shift in her career, as she moves from overseeing finance at a large public company to joining an industry on the cusp of rapid growth. The venture is capital-intensive and requires huge upfront investments, making Fischer's experience managing long-term infrastructure investments crucial to its success.
Her move reflects a broader trend of corporate capital and executive talent flowing into the AI infrastructure buildout. As billions are poured into this area, finance chiefs with experience in managing large investment programs are becoming key players in driving growth and returns for these investments.
