Fiserv's New Strategy Aims to Unleash Hidden Synergies
Fiserv's new CEO Takis Georgakopoulos is shaking up the company's strategy and structure, aiming to capture underused synergies across its payments, issuing, and banking software. At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology Conference, he outlined a unified approach that will replace the old Merchant Solutions and Financial Solutions silos with a single operating company organized by customer segment.
The goal is to simplify products, reduce duplicate platforms and features, and sell standalone businesses if they don't fit growth or margin goals. Georgakopoulos noted that the old structure made it harder to connect key assets like Finxact, Commerce Hub, and VisionPLUS, which are now being repositioned as a strong combination for large platform companies and marketplaces.
The company's Financial Solutions segment is showing signs of recovery, with improved client retention metrics, fewer departures, and a 70% reduction in client-facing incidents. Clover remains the main growth engine in Merchant Solutions, with underlying volume growth at about 13%. Project Elevate has already identified $500 million in savings, which will add 200 basis points of margin over several years.
Fiserv's shares have struggled, trading at $48.93 and down 63% over the past year. However, InvestingPro analysis suggests the company is significantly undervalued, with a fair value indicating substantial upside potential from current levels.
