Fitbit Air Accuracy Boosted by Simple Stride Length Adjustment
The Google Fitbit Air is a budget-friendly fitness tracker that offers a screenless design and impressive battery life. However, its accuracy in tracking workouts and step counting has been a point of contention for some users.
Sanuj, a freelance tech journalist, recently compared the Fitbit Air to the Pixel Watch 2 in a step-counting test and found that the Fitbit Air undercounted by roughly 650 steps over a 5,000-step walk. This error margin of more than 10% is significant for those who rely on their fitness trackers for accurate data.
Fortunately, Sanuj discovered a simple solution to improve the Fitbit Air's step-counting accuracy: adjusting its stride length setting in Google Health. To do this, users must first measure their own stride length by walking 20 normal steps and measuring the total distance covered. They then update the Fitbit Air with this measured value.
Sanuj tested the effectiveness of this tweak himself and found that it improved step-counting accuracy from 93% to 94.8%. This small change can make a big difference for those who rely on their fitness trackers, especially at the Fitbit Air's affordable price point of $99.
