Flipkart's Quick Commerce Platform Gains Early Lead Over Amazon
Flipkart's quick commerce platform, Minutes, has been gaining traction, outpacing Amazon Now in terms of store expansion and customer adoption. According to UBS, Flipkart Minutes operates over 1,000 dark stores across 120-130 cities and could add another 1,000 by the middle of next year. In contrast, Amazon Now has 500-600 stores across 11 cities, with its expansion slowing down due to operational issues.
The bigger difference lies in customer adoption, with Flipkart Minutes attracting 40-45% of customers visiting Flipkart's main platform, compared to fewer than one in ten for Amazon Now. New customers account for less than 6% of Amazon Now's quick-commerce base, giving Flipkart an advantage as the two companies head into their first major festive-season test.
Amazon Now needs around 1,700-1,800 orders a day per store to become profitable, but its current throughput leaves it far from that threshold. In contrast, Flipkart Minutes averages 800-1,000 orders per store per day and reaches 1,200-1,500 in mature stores.
