Flock Cameras Exposed: Walmart and Home Depot's Secret Surveillance System
Controversy has been brewing over Flock cameras, which have been installed in retail stores like Walmart and Home Depot. These cameras take photos of license plates, recording the make, model, color of the vehicle, as well as the time and location.
The data collected by these cameras is shared with law enforcement agencies, who can access it without obtaining a warrant. This has raised concerns about privacy and surveillance.
A new website, 'Have I Been Flocked', allows drivers to check if their license plate has been photographed by Flock's surveillance system. However, this does not necessarily mean that the vehicle is under investigation.
Flock cameras have been installed in over 120,000 locations across the US, with plans to reduce the retention of license plate information from 30 days to seven days, starting January 1st.
