Foldables at a Crossroads: Can Apple Outdo Samsung and Google?
After nearly seven years since the first Galaxy Fold launched, the foldable phone market has reached an inflection point. Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 series has seen high preorder demand, with the company reportedly producing an additional 1 million units over last year's Z Fold 7 series.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a new short and wide-screen aspect ratio that appeals to both gadget enthusiasts and entertainment lovers. Its shorter shape makes it easier to hold and manage compared to traditional handsets, while its expansive display with less letterboxing than conventional foldable phones positions it as a favorable choice for streaming TV shows and gaming.
Google's Pixel Pro Fold, on the other hand, is more focused on showcasing the company's AI advancements and software capabilities. The phone features a platform that allows Google to build, launch, and manage its suite of Android and Gemini features more seamlessly across devices.
With Apple expected to unveil its take on a foldable phone soon, it will face stiff competition from Samsung and Google. To succeed, Apple may need to find a balance between hardware innovation and software capabilities, possibly by leveraging its expertise in software and hardware integration.
