Fones Road Nighttime Closures Begin Next Week Amidst Ongoing Road Paving
Ongoing road paving is causing nighttime closures of Fones Road in Olympia next week. According to the City of Olympia Public Works Department, full closures will occur from Monday, Sept. 14, until Friday, Sept. 18. The work zone will span from just south of the Home Depot driveway to 17th Way SE.
The nighttime paving is part of the multimillion-dollar Fones Road Corridor Project. The project aims to transform the corridor into a safer area for bicyclists, motorists, pedestrians, and truckers by adding landscaping, lighting, and creating a connection to transit stops on 18th and Pacific avenues.
Access to individual properties may be closed for up to four hours at a time during this work. Emergency vehicles and school buses will still be allowed to pass through the work zone, which will occur from 6 p.m. to 5 a.m.
