Ford Picks Apple Maps Over Google for Its EVs
Ford's Vice President of Advanced Vehicle Projects, Alan Clarke, explained why the automaker chose Apple Maps over Google for its upcoming electric vehicles. The partnership between Ford and Apple was announced earlier this year as part of the Universal Electric Vehicle (UEV) Platform.
Clarke stated that they evaluated several mapping options, including those from Apple and Google, but ultimately decided on Apple due to performance capabilities, cost, and quality. He noted that Apple Maps has improved significantly over the past few years and offers a great solution for Ford's needs.
The integration will provide native Apple Maps in the Fathom vehicle, along with standard CarPlay and Android Auto support. Drivers will have access to various mapping solutions, including Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze, and more. Clarke emphasized that this decision allows for tight integration between the teams at Ford and Apple.
