Forgotten Favorites: Dozens of Beloved Grocery Store Brands That Faded Away
Dozens of beloved grocery store brands have faded away over the years, casualties of reformulations, corporate buyouts, and changing consumer tastes. One such example is Hydrox Cookies, which was launched in 1908 by Sunshine Biscuits and enjoyed a loyal following before being eclipsed by Oreo's marketing muscle.
Keebler discontinued the line outright in 2003, but Leaf Brands revived it in 2015 using the original 1908 recipe. Today, Hydrox is sold to collectors who remember its pre-Oreo glory days.
Another iconic brand that met a similar fate is Tab Cola, which was introduced by Coca-Cola in 1963 as the company's first diet soda. It gained popularity through the 1970s and 1980s but ultimately lost out to Diet Coke, which launched in 1982 and cannibalized its predecessor.
Coca-Cola finally pulled Tab from production in 2020, marking the end of a 57-year run that outlasted most of its diet-soda rivals.
