Former Google DeepMind Researcher Warns AI Could Wipe Out Humanity
A former Google DeepMind researcher has spoken out about his concerns over the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI). Bilal Chughtai, who worked at the lab for a year and a half, said he left due to his fears that AI 'has the potential to kill us all'.
In a statement posted on X, Chughtai wrote: 'I too am extremely concerned by the default trajectory of this technology.'
This is not an isolated view. Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon recently sparked debate with his own post warning that employees at AI companies privately fear the technology could wipe out humanity.
Chughtai echoed these concerns, stating: 'Our present understanding of how to train AI systems that deeply want what we want is extremely rudimentary.'
He also highlighted the risks of misaligned AI models, citing OpenAI's rogue agents hacking Hugging Face as a worrying example.
