Former Marine Michael Furstenberg Dies in ATV Accident

Michael Scott Furstenberg, a 56-year-old resident of Elk River, Minnesota, tragically lost his life in an ATV accident on May 30, 2026. Born on April 30, 1970, in Brainerd, Minnesota, to Donald and Betty Furstenberg, Michael served his country with honor during the Gulf War as a member of the United States Marine Corps.

Throughout his career, he worked for notable companies such as Target Corporation and Honeywell before joining PHT Systems. Friends and family remember him for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and quick wit, which often left them in laughter with his trademark 'Irish goodbyes.'

Michael's passing is met with immense sadness from those who knew him. He leaves behind a loving mother, Betty Furstenberg; children Hunter, Savannah, Mason, and bonus daughter Marisa Johnson; grandson Rome; brother Kyle; sister Sheila (Corby) Niemeyer and her family; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A committal service for close family and friends will be held at Camp Ripley in Little Falls on August 21. A Celebration of Life open house is scheduled for August 23 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Elk River Golf Club.
