Akshay Bhalla, former game guides editor for Screen Rant and technology editor at MensXP, has switched from Google Keep to an open-source notes app called NotallyX. He was looking for a simpler experience like the one he had before Google incorporated Gemini and cloud services into Keep.

Bhalla values his privacy and found that using Google Keep was compromising it. He discovered NotallyX, a fork of Google Keep, which excludes features such as cloud storage, tracking, and data leaving the phone. The app is available on the Play Store and has all the essential features of Google Keep.

The open-source app impressed Bhalla with its ability to store notes locally, without any form of advertising or tracking. It supports rich text, task lists, customization, images, and audio attachments, among other features. NotallyX also has automatic local backups, home screen widgets, PDF export support for easy sharing, and customizable colors.
