A range of frequent flyer credit cards is offering significant bonuses for new customers. The NAB Rewards Signature Card, Velocity Points, for example, offers up to 80,000 bonus Velocity Points if you spend $5,000 in the first three months and hold the card for over a year.

The Qantas American Express Ultimate also offers up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Points, but this is only available to new American Express customers. You need to spend $5,000 in the first three months and then hold the card for over a year to get the full amount.

Other cards on offer include the Qantas Money Titanium, which offers 150,000 bonus points with no waiting period, and the Virgin Australia Velocity High Flyer, which offers 100,000 bonus Velocity Points if you meet the spend criteria and hold the card for over a year.

However, some of these deals are changing from October 1, when the credit card surcharge ban comes into effect. From that date, some annual fees will jump and earn rates may fall.
