From Rejected Investor to Billionaire Entrepreneur: Jyoti Bansal's Unstoppable Rise
Jyoti Bansal's journey from a small Rajasthan town to building two billion-dollar companies in Silicon Valley is a testament to his determination and entrepreneurial spirit. Growing up, he helped his father run a farm-equipment business, giving him an early understanding of how businesses work.
Bansal moved to the US at 21 on an H-1B visa and spent seven years working before receiving his green card. With this newfound freedom, he finally had the opportunity to leave his job and build a company of his own.
In 2008, after being rejected by roughly 30 investors, Bansal secured $5 million for AppDynamics, which he founded with a simple idea, to help companies monitor application performance. The company eventually attracted major customers like Netflix, Priceline, and Electronic Arts before being acquired by Cisco in 2017 for $3.7 billion.
Bansal didn't stop there; he co-founded Harness, valued at $5.5 billion after its latest funding round, with the goal of solving a different problem, automating software delivery. With two successful companies under his belt, Bansal has had to adapt to changing market conditions and technological shifts, including the rise of generative AI.
