From Village Boy to Cyber Billionaire: Jay Chaudhry's Unlikely Rise

Jagtar Singh Chaudhry was born in Panoh, a tiny village in the foothills of the Himalayas, to a farming family. Growing up with limited access to resources, he still prioritized education and walked four kilometers daily to attend school under a tree.

At 22, Chaudhry left his village for the United States with $200 in his pocket, starting a journey that would eventually make him a billionaire founder of Zscaler, a cybersecurity company worth $26.6 billion. He later adopted the name Jay Chaudhry and became one of the richest Indian Americans, with a net worth of $9.3 billion.

Jay's early years were marked by hard work and determination. Despite lacking English proficiency, he secured admission to IIT (BHU) Varanasi and graduated with a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering. He then earned master's degrees from the University of Cincinnati in electrical and computer engineering, industrial engineering management, and an MBA.

Chaudhry's entry into sales was accidental but pivotal. He was assigned to do a demo after his colleague fell ill, which sparked an interest in customer-facing roles. This experience led him to pursue high-paying jobs at companies like Unisys, NCR, and IBM.
