FSSAI Cracks Down on Food Giants Over Misleading Ads
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued over 150 notices to food business operators, including major companies like Nestlé, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, and others, for alleged misleading advertisements, false claims, and violations of labelling requirements.
The regulator said the action is part of a wider enforcement drive against food businesses for violating food safety laws and regulations. Energy drink and alcoholic beverage makers have come under particular scrutiny, with FSSAI examining compliance with applicable food safety, advertising, and labelling requirements.
Restaurants and food service operators have also been pulled into the enforcement net, with over 30 notices issued to establishments like KFC India, McDonald's India, Pizza Hut India, Domino's India, and Costa Coffee. FSSAI has suspended five Domino's licenses as part of the enforcement action.
